Finding a mate is especially challenging for Single Black Women

If we were to believe everything we read in popular media, the lines to join the nunnery would be out the door, filled with hundreds of thousands of single black women. According to study after study, the prospects are slim to none for SBW hoping to find a compatible mate. Six Degrees From Love journals the life of a SBW and her struggles with dating and other related aspects of her personal and social lives. Could this be the one SBW who'll find the one who'll put a ring on it?

Happy Valentine’s Day and Welcome to Six Degrees From Love!

It'll be hard for anyone to ever
top this sweet card I got from my
favorite valentine, my son!

And so today began with me scrolling through Happy V-Day wishes that friends have posted on their facebook wall.
Here’s some of my favorites – matched up with the author’s relationship status:

“Loving is not just looking at each other, it’s looking in the same direction.”
-- female - happily married

“I don’t need Valentine’s Day to tell you I love u.”
-- male - it’s complicated

“Okay...I don't have a Valentine yet, but the day is still young ;)
-- female - single, and hopeful!!

This last one is my absolute favorite!  I’m so excited to launch on Valentine’s Day – this is what this blog is all about – hope!

  1. Yves-Marie, You had a very sweet Valentine, Nicholas is all a young Mom ever needs, it's when they are as old as mine that they are no longer Mommy's Valentine, then you need to worry about a MAN! Like me NOW.... There are good men, there are slack men, there are LAZY men, and there are okay men. All I ever wanted was a sexy, sweet man to SPOIL me rotten, I found it. It isn't love...just lust, the Man is awesome! He is every thing and then some! He has a great job, loves to have fun, loves his grown kids, loves the Islands. He isn't here all the time so I have the best of BOTH worlds, the MAN OF MY DREAMS, and free time to be with my friends. I have been so blessed and just when I gave up on ever having a man, he showed up, at none other than Roanoke Rapids NC.... He lives in Florida, works out of Atlanta and travels the country to various GP sites, come my way often enough! I am not in it for him to put a ring on it, but well, shit happens, who knows!

  2. Angela - Yes I had a great Valentine! I'm starting to believe that when all else fails your kids are still there unconditionally. Maybe their love really is the only forever love that exists. I wish you well on your long distance love! Hmmmm maybe I should begin visiting Roanoke more frequently!
